Sponsored by Inturf WalesLast year Jo gardens teamed up with Inscapes to design and build a show garden at the 2007 RHS Spring Flower Show in Cardiff. The Inscapes Garden was well received by all who visited the show and was awarded an RHS Silver-Gilt medal.
\n'); }The Inscapes Garden offered a beautiful and tranquil garden space, which aimed to show what could be created within the boundaries of a typical suburban back garden in Cardiff, without costing the earth.
With limited hard landscaping and the emphasis on plants, the formal layout of the garden was softened by the relaxed and informal nature of the planting. A series of interconnecting water features linked the garden together, by way of a water rill that flowed from a raised pool, under the terrace and under the lawn before re-emerging at the front of the garden into a wide shallow pool.
Six silver birch trees gave height and formed a light canopy over the whole garden. The under-planting included a mix of shrubs, ferns and early flowering perennials such as spirea, viburnum, cornus, aquilegias, and geraniums. The varying tones and textures of green along with shades of blue, mauve, purple, pale yellow and white gently weaved the planting together. The garden was enclosed on two sides by bespoke oak hurdle fencing, providing a stylish backdrop to the array of textured foliage plants and the striking stainless steel sculpture.
